Reading the Ritchel article, i was reminded of the many times that i become distracted while engaged in some academic task by a piece of technology that i own. I even recalled attempting to use programs to limit or monitor my internet use and determine how to make online time more productive. However, i have long since given up my attempts to stave off distractions--though I have repeatedly flirted with the use of the firefox addon called leechblock. I have come to peace with them and see them as necessary evils. Procrastination due to distraction, i have found over time, is not always a negative thing. Jorge Cham of Ph.D. speaks regularly about the power of procrastination http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMtpEd4FGrs
and I must say that when I have procrastinated on something and then am in the situation where I MUST do it, I'm in a much better state of mind and the anxiety that I experience assists me on the task, rather than impeding my progress. We should all give procrastination a try.
