The Information Society Social Spaces, Cyberspaces, and Implications of Electronic Environments.

Witte in the case for multimethod research made many valid arguments pitting the strengths and weaknesses of telephone, in-person, and online survey methods. For example, online survey methods were stated to encompass swaths of society (i.e., college students) who are not located in households or who do not own landlines. In addition, online or computer based surveys are known to elicit a higher amount of truthful responses for survey items about behaviors that are not socially appropriate.
In person surveys tend to obtain clearer, more direct responses and phone surveys do the same as well. Moreover, phone surveys and in-person surveys tend to attract respondents who are not regular internet users. Witte made a great case for using multiple methods to tap all of the potential individuals across platforms.
